Nut Graf

The Nut Graf tells the reader where the story is going. It follows after the lead and tells the reader why they should keep reading. It explains the significance of the story. A good nut graf should help direct the reader's understanding of the theme of the story. It is essentially a brief summary of the story.

The Nut Graf should be concise and to the point. It can range from a single sentence to a paragraph. It is usually the second paragraph, though it sometimes appears third. It should elaborate on the lead of the story, and cover the five Ws and the H if the lead did not. The Nut Graf is a crucial part of the story.
