A. I think that image #28 is the most powerful because it tells you that he returned to his
girl -friend and his family and the image gives a hint of that emotion that they can feel just from the image.
B. Set 1 - at home - Image #1 to Image #4
Set 2 - basic training - Image #5 to Image #15
Set 3 - in Iraq - Image #16 to Image #27
In Image #28 he is back at home in Denver
C. I think that set 2, basic training, was the most powerful because it was the part of the army that taught him everything he knew, and that is what helped him do well in the action of Iraq.
D.The images work well together to tell a story because they show many different times in his life and it showed how Ian changed and developed during each different time and place.
E.It was written in mostly paste tense.
F. The captions enhance the images because they make the story behind each image show a little more by having just a little insight to what was happening at that time.

Fashion Photograpy
1. In the first video her neck was made longer, and her eyes where moved a little bit down, her hair was smoothed out. The girls eyes where made bigger and so where her lips, and the face was a little bit pushed in, also her shoulders.
3. In the third video the lady's short hair was made into longer hair, her shins where made to be skinny same with her thighs. It looks like the person smoothed out her skin from cellulite, her tummy was pushed in and her shoulders where widened.
4. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like these in a photo? Why or why not?
I personally don't think its a great thing to do because it honestly it messes up our views on beauty in society.
5. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
6. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
5. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
6. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
What are okay is a slight smoothing of the skin or even balancing the colors.
What is not okay is changing the person completely.
7. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
7. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
Fashion is to entertain our society, to let people enjoy what they are viewing. Photojournalism is to capture the truth for the public to see.
8. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
8. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
Each photography both fixes the reality by changing things from the original picture it affects it because people only see the changed picture, not the original so people don't know the reality of it.
9. Why do you think I am showing you these three videos?
9. Why do you think I am showing you these three videos?

Portrait and Self Portrait (Absent)
3 Tips
- Experiment with lighting; another element of randomness that you can introduce to your portraits is the way you light them. there are almost unlimited possibilities when it comes to using lights in portraits.
- Take a series of shots; switch your camera into 'burst' or 'continuous shooting' mode and fire off more than one shot at a time.
-introduce movement; making your subject move, by keeping your subject but having an element in the scene around them move, by moving your camera(or its lens to achieve a zoom burst)
Environmental Portrait:
I really like the black and white of the photo and personally the focus on the man and the machine in honestly a lovely balance.
I really like this photo because it was able to catch the little partials of fiber from the yarn, the lighting is nice and brightens the colors.
Photography Self Portrait:
I really enjoy this photo because her eyes and the bee are rather nice bright colors while everything else is dull.
I like this photo because, out of all the black and white self portraits hers stood out and I think it might be her facial expression.
Casual Portrait:
I love the lighting in this image and I personally think the lighting makes the subject pop out more.
I like this photo because it shows that is a casual photo, it shows that it is casual and nothing more.
For portraits I plan to take pictures of my friend, or even coworkers. I would shoot at work or where ever my friends and I decided to hang out, I enjoy letting the moment happen. I will focus more on making the image more clear and not blurry. I will use the sun as an advantage and rules of third.

FamilyFun, August 2014, Road Trip
"For our August 2014 issue, FamilyFun commissioned photographer Sabrina Helas to shoot our cover story on family road trips. The minute we saw this image in the film, we knew we had our cover. Shot at The Corner Store in San Pedro, CA, the photo is filled with the kind of joyful, authentic details we love — the vintage blue bottle, the candy bracelet, the world's best burger, and a side-glancing smile of delight from 6-year-old Isaac. Intriguing and spontaneous-feeling, it sums up what our brand is all about: making happy memories with your kids.
Critique: Personally I think it is a really good picture. The lighting makes the image pop out more the colors appear so much more brighter. The child shows a lot of emotion which rubs off as happy or excited. The background is extremely appealing as well, it doesn't take away from the main subject but it adds nice balance to what is in the front of the image. The portrait is actually really appealing of the child, nothing is off setting and the child is extremely happy. This is an environmental photo because not only do you have the boy in the photo you have a visual background.

1.I thought that what Nick Brandt is really an amazing thing. His pictures are beautiful and each tells a great story and they really do make me want to help the animals in the photographs.
2.
"My images are unashamedly idyllic and romantic, a kind of enchanted Africa. They're my elegy to a world that is steadily, tragically vanishing."- Nick Brandt
2.
3. I really like it because it just shows the affection that the lions have for one another. A lot of people would say other animals down have feelings, but I truly believe they do, so this photo expresses it.
4. Its simplicity I think because it just has one subject in the photo, it shows the love between the two animals.
5. He uses a Pentax 67II with only two fixed lenses.
6.Brandt take his photos to show the world these amazing animals before they go extinction and to show that animals are deserve to live just as much as humans do.

Academic Shoot reflection and critique (Absent)

Trying not to disturb people while they were doing work. I felt the more I tried to follow the rules the harder it was not to disturb them.
2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.
I was more focused on the focusing of the camera I was worried the photos would come out blurry.
3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography?
I would sort of want to take a photo of better subjects. I would also like to be invisible to sort of focus on the rules.
4. What things would you do the same?
I really like to use rule of thirds I tend to be better in that rule.
5. When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve?
Rule of thirds, I always use rule of thirds, its imprinted in my mind.
6. Which rule do you think will be the hardest to capture?
Avoiding mergers, it sort of slips your mind when you are shooting.
7. What rule are you still not totally clear on and what can you do to figure out what that rule is?
Balance, I really forget about that one too, I guess I can sort of try to find things that balance each other out.
Hi Olivia. I really love your Trophy Legacy photo, its truly pleasing to the eye I adore the zig zag. I also really love the painting photo, the perspective is great. On your Thinking Shady photo I think you could have avoiding coping the subjects head off. GREAT JOB!

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3
1. What theme, that we could take here at school, could we do a series of these panels to place around the school?
I don't really know what the theme should be because everyone has their own opinion. I think that we, as a class, should think and brainstorm what we want the theme should be.
2. Should we use phones only, or should we open it up to our regular cameras for those people that don't have camera phones?
I think it should depend on the person and what they want to use. Some people may be better at taking photos on their phone then on regular cameras. I personally think the person should choose.
3. Where would you want to put the mural on campus?
I think a good place to put the mural would be the cafeteria. Lots of people sit there in the morning, after their sports class, lunch, etc. I personally think that the cafeteria is the best place to put the mural up.
PART 2:
1.) What first caught your eye while looking at your photographers photos? Is there something in particular about their photos that made you want to choose them? Post the images with your writing.
I really like the work she does with things like plants and animals. Its always the first thing to catch my attention because I'm a person that always admires nature. She tended to use things like white flowers to contrast the black of the photography.
2.) Look at those 2 photos you posted last time in the assignment Great Black and White Photographers Part 2. Use your five senses to tell me more about those photos. Answer them on your blog.
I hear: I can hear the wind blowing against my ears. I can hear the sweet chirps of baby birds crying for their parents. I can hear the buzzing of bees that buzz past me.
I taste: I can taste all the smell that smells that are around me.
I feel: I can feel the soft gently wilted petals of the magnolia flower. I can feel tiny little insect legs landing on my skin. I can feel the leafs and grass gently rub against my leg.
I hear: I can hear the sloshing of the pond as it hits its shore. I can hear little birds splashing into the water to catch their dinner. I can hear fish splashing around as they attempt to swim away.
I taste: I can taste the pond water. I can taste the smells around me.
I feel: I can feel the water splash around me and the little droplets land on me. I can feel the fish brush against my legs as they swim in a panic. I can feel the dragonflies gently land on me to then quickly lift off and leave.
3.) Finally, what would you like to create to show the world your great photographer. Ideas include, posters, power points, a blog, etc. You tell me what you would like to create so we can come up with a plan to share your thoughts and ideas about your photographer with your classmates and with the rest of the school.
I am not sure what I want to create, I just wanted to get better at taking photos because I just really enjoy taking photos. I guess in sometime in the future I would love to use is as a side job, to get extra money.
